Mountain Biking Trails in Lake Havasu

1. Watershed Loop

This is a meandering clean jaunt across the desert with panoramic views of the lake and the nearby mountains. The first half uses abandoned two tracks. The second half, though, utilizes fun and creative lines through the small canyons and washes.

Normally this course is ridden in a clockwise direction. You will steer left onto the abandoned two-track road. It utilizes this path for approximately 4 miles. After the double it is legitimate single-track. You’ll ascend a small ridgeline. Once you achieve speed in descending this area, you will find some real fast “g-outs”. After this point, the trail is fairly common single-track. At 8 miles or so there is a rough climb, but after that, you’ll go across several sand washes right back to where you began.

2. Friendly Fair Trail

A normal desert single-track trail that is often used for a good warm-up to the tougher trails on the lakeside of the road. This is an ideal trail for beginners to help them get warmed-up to the sandy terrain.

To access this trail, head out of the parking lot to the north and keep right. You will be reaching a wash for the first quarter mile or so of the trail.

After the wash, there will be two more small inclines before a small descent. You will be able to achieve a little speed at this point if you opt to, which will speed you up the small steady incline to the peak of the hill.

This side of the loop is more hard-packed and not as sandy. Once you are on the crest of the hill, you can either go right, following the new section of the Friendly Fair rail onto Friends of the Fair, or stay left and prepare for a decent going downhill back to the parking lot.

A lot of people ride this trail on a counter-clockwise direction, but some will ride it otherwise. This trail is not really difficult and is a great trail for beginners.

3. Trash Can

This trail starts out on a very cool single-track with flowing sections and several decent rock walls. Don’t worry, though, this trail does not have anything too extreme on it.

To reach this trail, depart from the Sara Park Trailhead leading towards the lake. Keep right throughout the loop, and you will be fine. There are several decent climbs but nothing too extreme and two rock walls that pose a small challenge for the intermediate biker. It is very simple to hike-a-bike over these features, if need be.

Trashcan Trail has some nice hard solid ground as well as some sandy wash sections and rocky zones. Generally, a great, short loop with some panoramic views and pretty red rock desert landscape. It is definitely a local favorite.

4. Pilot Rock Trail

The trail to Pilot Rock used to be an old mining road that directs to a dark red lava rock outcrop in the Colorado River that was once utilized by steamboat pilots for navigation. Now, Pilot Rock still serves modern sailors with a navigation light that blinks from the top at night.

The Pilot Rock Trail provides a lovely desert mountain walk in open terrain through an array of sceneries ending at the Pilot Rock campsites on Lake Havasu. Hike is approximately 3.5 miles one way, 7 miles round-trip.
